We worked together with the Bank of New Zealand to refresh their brand identity, aiming to balance the need for modernisation with the strength of their already well-established brand. Our work focused on refining key design elements, from typography to photography guidelines, to create a cohesive and contemporary identity that remains true to BNZ’s core values.
Their original gold logo, based on the Mahutonga (Southern Cross) star formation, provided a strong foundation. To complement this, we introduced a colour system featuring two gradients inspired by the Aurora Australis, symbolising both guidance and resilience. These themes hold deep cultural significance, reflecting the vital role the stars played in Māori navigation and exploration. By incorporating these natural elements, we reinforced the brand’s core message of "Let’s find a way."
This evolution helped BNZ connect with a newer audience while maintaining the respect and clarity in how it communicates across multiple platforms to its existing client base.
